Cars in Germany's City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Police reported they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

An important representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
