Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have come under escalating strikes in recent weeks

Throughout the evening, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while inhabitants in eastern districts were left without electricity and encountered disruption to water supplies, per reports from local authorities.

Simultaneously, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a different aerial attack in the southeastern region in the southeastern part, based on information from regional authorities.

Moscow has increased attacks on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "real steps" from international partners to apply pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the America, Europe and the major economies - in delivering protection systems and implementing penalties," he wrote in a online statement.

He said that 450 drones and more than 30 rockets attacked the country's power systems, describing such assaults as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as the weather cools.

Government representatives said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes damaged power facilities and apartment buildings in the capital.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the attacks on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from city authorities.

The attacks succeed nights of air raids in the territory, sections of which are occupied by invading troops.

The whole nation is on alert for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to identify.

National leaders told the media that Moscow was purposely seeking to demolish the national power system, with assaults already disrupting fuel infrastructure.

Officials stated technical personnel and officials were preparing for further attacks.
