'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with fans congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the second half. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory earned a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and driving. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with followers on the Tube after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
