The Former President's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's insatiable desire for retribution has rapidly evolved into a methodical framework. Over the twelve months, the president's anger and caprices have adopted the guise of government actions in ways analogous to earlier dictatorial governments. Government personnel who fail to comply are promptly removed and replaced by loyalists. Political leaders who question him risk legal action, court proceedings and sanctions. Opponents have been categorized under administration directives as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “against free markets”, and menaced with legal action as “extremists”.

Government Institutions Restructured

Each instance involving targeting of critics and protection for loyalists exhibits its own unique characteristics. But, despite their individual character, they embody examples of what has emerged as a calculated technique. Such episodes are not isolated. Trump's cleansing of Department of Justice lawyers and FBI agents, alongside his appointment of loyalists in key positions, began rapidly, soon assumed a pattern, and has now been molded into a structure. DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into partisan agencies under the president's direct direction to execute his demands. Wrongdoing has been rendered normal. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Management is focused with penalizing the President's alleged enemies than they are with defending our country's safety.

Within the System

The beginnings of this system has been uncovered in the legal complaint of three previous top Federal Bureau executives submitted in the ninth month in the judicial system in DC against agency head Kash Patel and top lawyer another official for illegal termination in “a campaign of revenge against the officials for what Defendants considered to be a refusal to demonstrate adequate political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the previous temporary head, recounts a exchange in which the director “freely acknowledged the illegality of his behavior”.

The official had attempted to shield FBI agents from being terminated, the lawsuit alleges. He advised him that “administration officials” – interpreted by the official to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to remove all those who they identified as having participated in a law enforcement case against him. The filing continues: “He clarified that he had to terminate the individuals his bosses told him to dismiss, because his ability to retain his own role depended on the removal of the personnel who handled cases involving the President. The director explained that there was nothing he or the official could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the agency tried to place the leader in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When the official told him he was breaking the agency's own regulations, he supposedly said “he recognized that and he was aware the nature of the summary firings were almost certainly improper”.

Broad Consequences

Since his alleged confession to the official, the justice department and the FBI have been weakened and repurposed for his revenge apparatus. Six of the FBI's senior executives were terminated or forced out in the early weeks of the presidency. Approximately 4,500 lawyers at the department have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. No fewer than several federal prosecutors, such as those in the New York office, quit in objection over what they regarded as ideological pressure in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the local official, a political figure, in as a trade for his assistance with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of DoJ, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been diminished to two attorneys. The equality section has been severely reduced: 70% of its personnel has left. 33% of top officials at DoJ have quit. The section enforcing conservation statutes has lost 50% its supervisors.

Favors and Sanctions

Regarding the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the southern district of New York, the official, resigned in objection against what she labeled as the “exchange”. The border official, the president's “enforcement chief,” showed up as the enforcer with him on Fox News to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll be back in New York City.”. Meanwhile, another figure, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the arrangement, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a potential pathway to the supreme court.

Trump's exemption for offenses perpetrated while in power, awarded by the extraordinary judgment of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his political viability for the national vote, is the cornerstone on which he depends to shield his supporters. Given this protection, he has been empowered to permit misconduct. The impact of the supreme court decision infuses his government and the political party down to its bones. The court matter has spread. As the former president's administration lawyer he commented about the Watergate
